Model UN-Liberia Successfully Concludes 6th Edition Conference in Monrovia
August 2026- Monrovia
The Model United Nations Liberia (MUN-Liberia) has successfully concluded its 6th Edition Conference 2026 in Monrovia, bringing together 200 participants from Liberia and beyond for several days of diplomacy, debate, policy discussions, and youth engagement.
The conference provided a platform for young people to demonstrate leadership, diplomacy, critical thinking, public speaking, negotiation, and problem-solving skills while engaging with some of the most pressing issues confronting the world today.
Of the 200 participants, 150 were young people who served as delegates and were distributed across six different committees: the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Security Council (UNSC), United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), United Nations Women, and UNICEF.
Across the six committees, delegates engaged in extensive debates and negotiations on critical national, regional, and global issues. Discussions covered topics including climate change, reform of the United Nations Security Council, female genital mutilation, sustainable development, gender equality, peace and security, youth development, and other issues of global concern.
Through research, dialogue, negotiation, and diplomatic engagement, the young delegates discussed and developed six separate resolutions. At the conclusion of the committee sessions, all six resolutions were successfully passed, reflecting the commitment, intellectual capacity, and collaborative spirit of the participants.
The remaining 50 participants included Model United Nations Liberia volunteers, officials from partner organizations in Sierra Leone and Guinea, local and international guests, as well as local and international observers. Their presence contributed to the diversity and international character of the conference while strengthening partnerships and regional cooperation among young people and institutions.
The conference also featured distinguished speakers and guests who contributed significantly to the success of the program. At the opening plenary, Mr. Aliou Mamadou Dia, UNDP Resident Representative, also representing the UN Resident Coordinator, served as the keynote speaker, delivering remarks that inspired participants and emphasized the importance of youth leadership, innovation, and active participation in addressing contemporary global challenges.
The closing plenary was graced by Hon. IB Nyei Deputy Minister for International Cooperation and Economic Integration, who served as the keynote speaker. Their participation further highlighted the importance of empowering young people and creating meaningful opportunities for them to contribute to national development and international cooperation.
Beyond the formal debates and committee sessions, the 6th Edition Conference generated significant public discussion and renewed attention to the challenges facing young people, particularly the need for increased investment, support, mentorship, and opportunities for youth to participate meaningfully in leadership and decision-making processes.
The successful passage of all six resolutions demonstrated that young people are not merely future leaders but active contributors to finding solutions to today's most pressing challenges. The conference provided participants with an opportunity to move beyond discussion and develop practical recommendations and policy ideas that can contribute to conversations at the national, regional, and international levels.
Held in Monrovia, Liberia, the MUN-Liberia 6th Edition Conference 2026 reaffirmed the organization's commitment to promoting youth leadership, diplomacy, civic engagement, international cooperation, and sustainable development.
As the conference came to a close, participants, partners, volunteers, and guests reflected on a period of meaningful engagement, learning, networking, and collaboration. The event once again demonstrated the power of bringing young people together across backgrounds and borders to discuss challenges, exchange ideas, and work collectively toward solutions.
The 6th Edition Conference stands as another important milestone for Model United Nations Liberia and a strong reminder that when young people are given the platform, knowledge, and opportunity to lead, they can contribute meaningfully to shaping a more peaceful, inclusive, and sustainable future.
