Ministry of Gender, Children & Social Protection with Support from UN in Liberia Launched Country Gender Equality Profile

The document was developed to provide a comprehensive gender analysis of the situation of women and men in Liberia.

The launch event was held at the Mamba Point Hotel in Monrovia. Various stakeholders including government Ministers, representatives of government departments, Mr. Niels Scott, UN Resident Coordinator, Ambassadors of Sweden and the EU, Mr. Yawo Maglo, Acting UN Women Liberia Country Representative, civil society, media, among others, attended the event.

Most speakers at the event congratulated the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Protection (MGCSP) for the development of the Gender Country Profile. They expressed hope that the document will be fully utilized and used to fill gender gaps in all sectors.

The MGCSP led the production of the Country Gender Equality Profile with financial and technical support from the African Development Bank Group Liberia Country Office, European Delegation in Liberia, Swedish Embassy in Liberia and UN Agencies (OHCHR, UNICEF, UNDP, UNFPA, UN Women).

Gender equality is Goal 5 of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals established by the United Nations in 2015 as part of the 2030 Agenda for sustainable development. While gender equality is captured as a stand-alone goal, it cuts across all the SDGs, and gender considerations must be included in all sustainable development work. Gender equality can enable and even accelerate the achievement of all the sustainable development goals.
