Liberia: A Country Looking Forward
In January 2021, the COVID-19 pandemic was at its height and its consequences were being revealed, adding to Liberia’s standing needs for development and social cohesion, thwarting peacebuilding efforts, and threatening progress on the rapidly approaching Agenda 2030.
A year later, the war in Ukraine sent a new wave of challenges around the world. These back-to-back global challenges, coupled with the looming threats of climate change, demand new game rules for development. The changing world requires the United Nations to evolve and adapt its strategies to enhance a transformative agenda for the advancement of the people of Liberia.
It is at this critical juncture that Niels Scott arrived, carrying with him an invaluable toolbox of experience gained over more than 25 years of service in international cooperation, development coordination, humanitarian assistance, crisis management, and peacebuilding support acquired at the United Nations and other organizations. Together, the United Nations Country Team in Liberia has risen to these challenges with tremendous vision and hard work, serving as a true all-weather friend and development ally to the Government and people of Liberia.
