Happy International Women's Day from the UN Country team in Liberia!
The International Women’s Day (IWD) is a global event marking the plight and accomplishments of women over the years. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating gender equality, over a century with the first gathering in 1911, supported by over millions of people around the world. It is annually held on the 8th of March to celebrate women throughout history and across nations. The day seeks to honour the voices that go unheard, tears that go unnoticed and their rights that are dominated by society. It is also marked as a day for women around the world to come out and inspire people to act in the on-going fight for gender equality, to recognize the gender inequalities that women go through as well as celebrate the achievements of women who have overcome these barriers.
This year’s International Woman’s Day is celebrated under the Global theme “Innovation and Technology for Gender Equality” and National Theme: “Innovating with Technology to Promote Gender Equality” celebrates the tremendous efforts by women and girls around the world in shaping a more equal future andrecognizing the contribution as women and girls continue to fight for equality, entering into a male dominated sectors.
