The UN Resident Coordinator, Niels Scott, today, visited the Office of the Honorable Speaker of the House of Representatives, R.L, Hon. Dr. Bhofal Chambers.
Discussions on key issues around the economic revitalization of Liberia and the how to ensure the effectiveness of aid to the country were proffered at the meeting.
Honorable Dr. Bhofal Chambers expressed delight in the visit of Mr. Niels Scott and stressed the need for more public-private partnership, as a means of improving the economy and livelihoods of Liberians. He mentioned, “This would bring in better returns for the country”. He also noted that, “We should not be enamored to a particular idea but be open to change”. The Liberian Speaker also emphasized the need for greater partnership and discussions with donor partners.
The UN Resident Coordinator highlighted the relevance of listening and coordinating with government as a means of guidance on direction of national priorities. He mentioned the need for gender equality and empowerment, pointing out that “gender equality and empowerment adds 20% to the economy of a country.
Niels Scott stated his appreciation for the dialogue with the Speaker and promised to work with the government for the betterment of the Liberian people.
