The Ministry of Justice (MoJ) in collaboration with UNICEF, today launched a five-year National Strategy Road Map on the Child Justice System in Liberia.
The Strategy, which was launched on January 25th in Monrovia, among other things, seeks a comprehensive reform of the child justice system for children and to effectively ensure the promotion and protection of the rights and needs of children in conflict with the law, child victims/witnesses of crimes, children involved in or affected by civil proceedings/family matters and cases of children involved in the Informal Justice Sector.
The strategy is based on the findings and recommendations from a 2019 “study on the child System in Liberia” that was jointly conducted by UNICEF and the Ministry of Justice.
The occasion was graced by the Minister of Justice, Cllr. Frank Musah Dean, Jr., the Chief Justice of the Republic of Liberia, His Honor Francis S. Korkpor, Sr., Deputy Minister for Gender, Children and Social Protection, Lydia Sherman, UNICEF Representative, Laila O.Gad, UN Resident Coordinator, Niels Scott, Program Officer for Embassy of Sweden in Liberia, Dwede Tarpeh and a representative from the Children's Forum.
